NHL — the numbers that describe a player, not his team

A save percentage flatters a goalie behind a good defence. A plus-minus flatters a forward on a good line. The numbers here strip that out: what a goalie saved beyond what the shots he faced were worth, and the share of expected goals a skater’s team controls while he is on the ice.

⚠️ Everything below is 2025-26 — the season that just ended. Opening night is in 18 days (September 29), and these pages switch to the new season that night.
